He utilizes cutting edge technology to diagnose and provide minimally invasive treatment for chronic Hip or Knee Osteoarthritis. Dr. Owashi, a native of Southern California, grew up always having a passion for patient care and started pursuing his career as a physical therapy aide, emergency room technician and certified nursing assistant prior to attending medical school. He graduated Cum Laude from University of California, San Diego with a dual major in Human Biology and Psychology. He went on to earn his medical degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. During his orthopedic residency Dr. Owashi was selected as chief resident at Westchester Medical Center, the only Level 1 trauma center between NYC and Albany with the highest case mix index of all hospitals in the United States. While not usually life threatening, osteoarthritis, nicknamed “wear-and-tear arthritis," is a common condition individuals can develop as they age.   While this issue can develop in any joint in the body, it will most often develop in weight-bearing joints, such as the hip or knee, causing pain and stiffness.  This can have the greatest impact on our bodies as it can make it hard to do everyday activities like bending over to tie a shoe, rising from a chair, or taking a short walk.   Osteoarthritis can keep us from fully enjoying our lives. When asked how Dr. Owashi’s services benefit the community, Joseph Hurley explained that “Hip and Knee joint disease can affect many aspects of our lives but can be addressed quickly for those who seek treatment. Hip and Knee pain due to arthritis is typically not solved with physical therapy as it will gradually worsen and for many, rob them of their freedom.  Osteoarthritis has a way of preventing Californians from getting out of their house and doing the things they used to love to do in the Summer, such as walking, surfing, hiking, kayaking, dancing, and doing things that help us feel alive.  Many who suffer from joint pain feel they have a poor quality of life however, they do not have to feel this way anymore”.

“Dr. Owashi is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in lower extremity reconstructive surgery and total joint replacement. He specializes in both primary and revision total joint replacement of the hip and knee due to Osteoarthritis. He also brings expertise in new surgical techniques including minimally invasive surgical procedures, posterior and anterior approach hip replacement surgery, computer navigation, as well as robotic total joint replacement.,” said Joseph Hurley, regarding Dr. Owashi’s outstanding medical experience.
